A human adult or animal is a creature that has developed to the fullest extent. In the context of humans, the term adult has implications that are based on moral and social concepts. Contrary to the term "minor" (or "non-adult" legally-aged adult refers to a person who has achieved majority. They are regarded as to be responsible, independent and competent. It is also possible to view them as a "major". There is a general belief that the threshold at which an individual can legally become an adult is 18. It is possible for this to be different based on rights under the law and countries as well as psychological development.

If a person attains full physical and intellectual maturity, it is referred to as adulthood. Typically, the age of adulthood is around age 21, or 20. The typical middle-age begins around 40 years old, and is followed by approximately 60 years. There are three primary stages of adulthood the early years of adults (18 up to the mid-30s) mid-adulthood (mid-30s through mid-60s), and the final stage of adulthood (mid-60s up to the point of the time of death). By the time we reach the age of early adulthood (20 to early 40s) the physical development is complete, although our weight and height could increase a bit. When we are young, our physical abilities are at their best such as muscular strength, reaction time sensors, as well as the functioning of our heart.
